Upcoming Conferences of Note

The reThink Conference will be held May 16 at Providence Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. The conference is intended for pastors, youth ministers, and other church leaders who are interested in rethinking the way most evangelical churches do youth and family ministry. The conference is named for Steve Wright’s recent book reThink: Is Student Ministry Working? Wright’s book is without a doubt the best book I have ever read on youth ministry (and I’ve read my fair share over the years). The conference is free of charge. The speakers include several members of the pastoral staff at Providence (including Wright) and Dr. Randy Stinson, dean of the School of Leadership and Church Ministry at Southern Seminary. The conference is sponsored by Providence, InQuest Ministries, and Two Institutions, which is the finest blog I know of that is devoted to gospel-centered family and youth ministry.

For those who are more inclined toward Baptist history, the Andrew Fuller Center for Baptist Studies at Southern Seminary will be hosting its second annual conference August 25-26. The conference theme is The English Baptists of the 17th Century. Notable speakers include Fuller Center director Michael Haykin, Tom Nettles, Malcolm Yarnell, Barry Howson, Al Mohler, and Jim Renihan. The conference will also feature a number of doctoral students and recent doctoral graduates who are experts in early English Baptist history. The cost is $80.00. My friend Steve Weaver has more details about the conference available on his website.

I suspect that Southwestern Seminary will be hosting another Baptist Distinctives Conference this fall, so I will get that information out there as I learn details. I also know that we have some cool stuff planned at Southeastern for the fall, but I will save that for a later post.
